A meeting of tho Tress Baby Sub-com-mittco appointed to niako arrangements iu connection with the forthcoming bridge and eitehro party, to be held m tho Conceit Chamber of tho Town Hall on Friday, May 10, was held yesterday aftomoon. Already quito a number of tables have been made up, and the evening promises to bo a very pleasant ono. Players who intend making up tables aro asked to send in their names to any of the following, by Monday if possible:— Mrs. J. M. Geddis, Mrs. Chatfield, Mr. C. Wheeler.

The dances which are held at tho Sydney Strett Soldiers' Club each Wednesday are extremely popular, and as time goes on the attendances become larger and larger. That of last evening was even larger than usual, and tho problem of floor space is becoming quite acute. The hostosses in the tea iooiu last evening were Miss Coates and Mrs. Shirlchffo and Mrs. Coleridge and Mrs. C. Earle were in charge of the darning arrangements. Airs. W. F. Massey was among thoso who wero present.

Members and friends of the Women's National Rtscrve are -isked to support the group of babies nominated, m the Baby Competition by the Soldiers' Wives' Club, and known as Baby No. 8. Theso babies havo all got soldier fathers away in the lighting area, and they are great frequenters of tho creche which has been, established in connection with this club for tho wives of soldiers by the W.N.R. They are Kibies of -whom their fathers could not bo proud, aud it is hoped they will find .many supporters in the baby'campaign. Mrs. Seville, of Hutaitai, represents the executive, and offers of nelp iu organising entertainments, etc., will be very gladly accepted.

' The annual meeting of' the Victoria Lcagiio will be hold in tho Esperanto Hall to-morrow evening al eight o'clock. Mr. C. B. Morison will be in the chair, and a brief address will be given by the Hon. Arthur Myers.
