Assn., Ltd., stook department, report on their Palilalia oattlo fair, held last Wednesday, as follows :-Wo oflered a large yarding of cattle, 2309 in number; being 600 in excess of number advertised, and wo sold 1824, which, considering tho easiness of the market, was considered highly satisfactory, Buyere were present from all parts of tho North Island. Competition for grown cattle was decidedly slack, and prices were, wo consider, in favour of the buyer. Young cattle, forward cows, and cows in calf wero in much better demand, and sold in favour of tho vendor. Tho lack of inquiry for bullocks wo attribute largely to the fact that the margin between the prico paid for store cattle and what they realise when fat las'becu so very small that graziers during the past three or four months have turned their attention to the more proltablo farming of..rowing wool. The hide question must also be taken into consideration, and most of the meat export firms have lowered their prices of beef by 2s. per 1001b.
