LOWER HUTT BOROUGH
VACANCIES IN THE COUNCIL. It will bo remembered that about a month ago there was a "breeze" at the Lower Hutt Borough Council meeting when'l he Mayor (Mr. H. Bnldwiu) and Councillors H. A. Ward and S. Clendon resigned. T.lio incident aro.so out of a circular which was signed by the Mayor and Councillors named above- inviting subscriptions for a testimonial to be given tlio late Borough Engineer, Mr. Koaehje. TTie circular oxtolled tho services of tho engineer. Exception waa taken to this by some of tho councillors, and on the motion of Councillor M'Dougall a resolution was carried disapproving, of tho action of Messrs.' Baldwin, Word. Clendon, and another councillor, who ,di<l not resign. Nominations for the vacancies thus caused closed on Saturday at noon, and resulted as follow:— lid ward Pcrcival lfishworth was nominal™! for tho Mayoralty, and .his being the only nomination, ho was declared elected. For the two vacancies on fho council the following wero nominated:—Messrs. S. Clendon, 11. A. Ward, W. B. Hardy, C. B. Robinson, and A. J. West. Tlie election will bo held on Frida-T, May 3.
