THE POTATO MARKET
By TeleeraDh— Press Aesociation. Christchurch April 23. There is nothing fresh to report in connection with, the grnin and produce markets, except in notatoos. As another boats is leaving for Auckland this week thero has been a more active demand during the last few days for potatoes, and ■£5 los. is now being paid at handy etations, and £5 12s. 6d. at more distant stations. Crops are, turning out unevenly, and on the irhole are much lighter than usual. Thero is a prospect of business being done in potatoes between Molbqurno and Wellington. Offers. of supplies' of white-skinned potatoes have been made from Melbourne at ,£5 10s. for May, June, and July delivery, and up to £6 10s. for July, August, and September. It will cost another £2 10s. to land them at Wellington'or Anokland, and it is reported than Bomo sales have already been made. It is stated that the Board of Trade is to visit Christchurch early nest -week, and will make inquiry into tho price of potatoes.
