MAGISTRATE'S COURT

At the Magistrate's Court .yesterday, Mr. S. E. M'Cavthy, S.M., presided, aiid dealt with the police cases. Emil Neilson, a seaman, was charged with being drunk, also with lommitting a grossly indecent act in the Cicwn Theatre. On tho chargo of (/.-linki'iiness he was convicted and discharged, and on the other charge he was i\ent to j>i"6on for three months.

An elderly man named Jesse Cr.derivood, while under the inHinnce rf liiir.or on Monday afternoon, wa? alleged to have accosted females and used insulting language to them. Compl.v.nts were made to a constable, who followed the man and arrested' him. Yesterday he was charged with being drunk,.and also with using obscene language. There were 53 previous convictions against him for drunkenness and using obscene language, but there were no convictions during the past six months. For using obscene lan. gnage ho was sent to gaol for three months, and on the charge of being drunk he was convicted and discharged.

Thomas. Reeves went into the Pier Hotel on Monday and made himself a nuisance to others in the bar. Ho was ordered by the barman to leave tho premises, and eventually ho was put out by the barman, when he used obscene language. Ho returned later with a gin bottle in his hand and. throw it at the barman, but fortunately missed him. Reeves was charged yesterday with using obscene language, also with assaulting the barman, Thomns Weatherburn. After hearing ovidence Reoves wns sentenced to three months' imprisonment for assaulting the barman, aud to six months' imprisonment for using obscene language, the terms to be cumulative.

For insobriety, Thomas Jacobson, William Jl'Guire, and Daniel Murphy, each ot' whom had one previous conviction, were lined 20s. each with the option of seven days' imprisonment. Two first ofrendoi's wero each fined 205., in default 48 hours' imprisonment, and another was fined 10s., with the option of 24 hours' imprisonment.
