The following acknowledgment of comforts sent to Trentham Hospital by tho Red Cross Soldiers' Comforts Fund has been received by the hou. secretary from tho matron:—"Received from above society cake, smokes, tooth brushes, and soap, also fruit and tomatoes for tho soldiers in the above hospital. I havo seen that the returned men came in for a good share of, the tobacco. Also sent Izard Hospital patients their share of the good things. And on the patients' behalf, I beg to thank you for all these most appreciable things. There is nothing else at present that we require, as you are keeping us so well supplied with fruit, etc. I can give it out several times a week." At yesterday's meeting of tho Wellington Ladies' Christian Association it was stated by one of those present that the association was the first' women's organisation created for the purpose of workill" among their sister women in the city of°AVellington. It was the parent society, and she considered that it had sewn the seeds from which had sprung the many women's societies of to-day, whose mainspring was the idea of working for the benefit and uplifting of all women.
