MAKARA COUNTY COUNCIL

The monthlyfmectinp; of tho Makara County Council was hold' on Friday. Councillor S. Bryant presided, andthero were present: Councillors J. H. Haggerty, A. J. Taylor, E. Windley, W. E. Cook, and S. Howler. It was resolved to request the Health 'Department to mako an inspection of alleged- insanitary premises at Ohariu. Further- application is to bo made to the Wellington City Council to ascertain whether its library scTiemo can be extended to all schools in the county. At present' only two schools enjoy the privilege. Jtr. E. W. Brown was appointed custodian of the Titahi Bay reserves under the control of the council.

Major Sandle, officer in command of the New Zealand Field Artillery, wrote oomplaining that the falling in of the culvert at Ngahauranga was causing an .accumulation of water in such a manner as to create a nuisance. The council decided to have the necessary repairs carried out immediately. An application from tho New Zealand Farmers' Co-operative Bacon and Meat Packing Co., Ltd., for a meat export license was granted, subject to tho approval of tho Department of Agriculture The draft balance-sheet of tho council for tho year ended March 31 was submitted.
