Teaching of Domestic Science. Miss Annie B. Juniper (at present supervisor of domestic science in public seuools, Victoria, British Columbia) was one out of 22 applicants for tlio position of organiser for domestic science subjects iu tho Auckland Education district. This is the first appointment iu New Zealand, states tho Auckland "Herald." Tlio duties of tue organiser will be: To tako charge, under the supervisor of manual training and technical education, of the teaching of domestic Bcienco subjects in primary, district high, and technical schools; to organise courses of instruction; to inspect and report upon classes; to assist in tho training of teachers, and to give model lessons for their benefit; to hold special meetings for mothers in the country district for tho object of obtaining their co-operation, so that the teaching of domestic sujeuue may bo mado as far-ronoliing as possible. Miss Juniper holds Tirst-class diplomas an<l certificates iu all domestic science subjects. In 1904 he was, solectcd by Canadian authorities to take charge of domestic science work in Eastern Canada, and spent four years in that'wk, after which she was appointed to .the position of dean of household science at Mncdonald College, which is affiliated with M'Gill 'University, Montreal, a position she held for two years. She then took charge of their household science department at Manitoba Agricultural College for two years, ivhen sho was appointed supervisor of domestic science in Victoria, British Columbia, which position she has held for the last six years. I Women's National Council. At a meeting of the executive of tho National Council of Women (Wellington branch) last Monday, it was arranged to postpone the annual meeting Mmtil May in order to give time for all societies wishing to affiliate to do so. Bach society is entitled to one or mora representatives on the committee, ■ according to tho number of members. All applications should bo sent to Miss England, 125 Molesworth Street. Tho executive for the ensuing year will bo appointed at the annual meeting by and from among members' of tho committee.. The National Council exists to unite all women's societies for combined action, and at the conference.of the branches held nt Easter two resolutions wore passed regarding the activities of the council for tho coming year, (1) that all branches bo recommended to work for the amendment 'of tho electoral law to enable women to he elected to Parliament; (2) that the Auckland branch (who havo already devoted much thought to tills subject) bo asked to specialise on the study of tho question of providing moro adequate home assistanco from mothers with young children, with tho co-operation of Miss P. My.ors.

The Wellington Gas Company has also promised a day, in which jAliss Carter will lie a. prominent; figure. Fresh offers of help are greatly- appreciated, as the Red Cross funds are so urge'utly needed, and will be cvqn more so in the near future. A test room for invalid soldiers is about to bo opened nt 92 Worcester Street, Christchurch, opposite tho offices of tho Patriotic Associotion. The room, which is being opened under the auspices of the Women's National Reserve, is on the ground floor, and has boon cnnifoitably and suitably furnished. Members of (he W.N.R. will be in attendance every afternoon, to dispense afternoon tea. Tho room should nrovo to be a boon to those soldiers who desire to meet for a quiet talk, or' who '-equire a place in which they may write or read in comfort.

Ladies' Royal Lifj-saving Club, A very successful social evening was held by the above club on April 12 lust, when the prizes gained during tho season were presented by tho president, Dr. Ptatts-Mills. In an interesting address, Dr. I'lutts-Mills told tvro 6toriot>, one illustrating tho necessity of being able to swim, and the other tho need of knowing how to bring a drowning person to shoro and knowing vshat to do when there. Short addresses wore also givon by Messrs. 1). K. Blair, I{. D. Edwards; W. C. Collier (vice-presidents), and A. M.-Fai'iuill, representing the Wellington Amateur Swimming Association. Games, etc., were also held, and a very pleasant evening was brought to a close by the singing of "Auici Lang Syne." Thorndon Bowling Club. Tho Thorndon Bo'wlins Club closed down its season ou Saturday afternoon. Invitations had been issued to members of suburban ■ clubs to attend, and the response was most satisfactory. Bowlers and ladies were moat hospitably entertained. Afternoon tea was served in tho pavilion by Mrs. R, J. Collins and Mrs. P. Myers, and was much nprociated., At tho conolusion of the day's play the mombers gathered around their president (Colonel R. 3. Collins, C.M.G.), who made a few remarks in roforonce to the 6losing season, and as- to the prospects of next season. The olub flag was then hauled down and the ssasan declared closed. On the motion of Mr. T. S. Ronnldson a hearty vote of thanks wns accorded to the president, and three hearty cheers for the president -:>.nd Mrs. Collins brought a pleasant day to a close.
There was a very largo attendance of soldiers at tho dance held in the Town Hall on Saturday evening for thoir benefit by the Mayor's Entertainment Commiltee, probably . the largest number that has yet beon present on n, similar occasion. The Mayor himself, owing to Parliamentary duties, was unablo to fttond, and his place was takon by Mr. Seaton and the Mayoress, Mrs. J. P. Luke, .who did everything possible to secure the enjoyment of all present. The Trentham Band supplied excellent music, and the refreshments were h: the hands of the .Mayoress's committee of ladies. In Mr. Seaton the committee-finds an indefatiuablo assistant, and his services (which never fail them) are very greatly appreciated indeed.
