MEETING OF THE COUNCIL,

The Mayor (Mr. F. Townscnd) presided over tho ordinary meeting of the Miramar Borough Council held on Thursday. There were present: Councillors S. H. Underwood, M. Tracy, AV. H. Green, James Pollock, and H. K. Robertshnw.

Permission was granted the Wellington Harbour Board to lease n section at "U'orser Bay subject to certain conditions.

Mr! E. J. Bnrnott wrote, asking for the erection of a lamp in the vicinity of his house, and it was decided to inform him that it was impossible to consider the request just now.

The Worser Bay School was granted the use of tho Town Hall on April 22 free of charge, for a householders' meeting.

The annual report, statement of accounts, balance-sheet, and tramway returns for the year ending March 31. IDIB, wero submitted by the Borough Engineer and Acting-Town Clerk, and adopted by tho council. A deputation of ratepayers and residents of Seatoun waited upon the council with respect to the City Council's proposed alteration of the tram route to and from,Seatoun. The city proposes to run the Seatoun cars via Constable Street, and the residents complain that that would involve longer time on the journey.

■ Mr. W. Murie, who was tho principal speaker, stated that long-distance passengers should have their cars sent the shortest, and therefore quickest, route, and not bo compelled to spend longer on their journeys than absolutely necessary. The Sefttoun residents f'olt that tlie.v wero being penalised at the expense of Hataitai, and were being forced to spend about ten minutes per day extra in the cars on a run of forty minutes each way, already long enough, whereas the KilbifnieHataitai run was only about twentyfive minutes via the tunnel, and an extra few minutes on to that time would not bo any hardship. The Mayor, in replying to the deputation, said the council was not in favour of the proposed alteration of the route. He gave the opinion of the Traffic Manager, who stated that tho new route would mean two and a half minutes longer, but that this would be made up bv a non : stop run. The council, however, intended to fully discuss tho matter and make representations to the City Council. The council was not going to accept the Constable Street route_ "lying down," and would probably wait on the city authorities.
