BRITISH EMPIRE AWARDS
PROTEST REGARDING OMISSIONS. By Teleerapli—Press Association. Christohuroh, April 10. A protest against alleged invidious distinctions in the recent awards of the Order of the British Empire was made by a member at to-day's meeting of tbe executive of the Canterbury Patriotic Fund. The speaker particularly complained of the omission of the secretary of the Canterbury Patriotic Fund and the town clerk, both of whom had done yeoman's patriotic work. He asked for an expression of opinion from the Mayor (Mr. H. Holland).' Mr. Holland said he could not give any information i.t all. He did not think it right to -sk him such a question. He was not. in the confidence of the Governor-General, and iie 'knew nothing about the testimony of the order. He bad never tried, directly or indirectly, to oxercise any influence in the matter.
