GREAT RECRUITING EFFORT IN SOUTH AFRICA URGENT MEASURES Capo Town, April 9. The Government announces that in view of the urgent necessity for recruits it has decided that only absolutely essential public-works are to be carried on and non-essential, works stopped till the end of the war. Tho Government desires that tho services of women and. returned soldiors shall be / utilised as far as possible in tho Public Service. _ It lias also decided to allow recruiting agents to have access to Government oilices for tho purpose, of obtaining recruits. Tho latter concession had hitherto been refused — Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. . - GREAT RECRUITING RALLY IN' OAPE TOWN. Oape Town, April 8. A great recruiting rally has opened. All businesses were closed at midday, and overflowing intercession services were held in tho ohurches, halls, and theatres. —Renter. THE AUSTRAUAiTcONFERENCE LABOUR. WILL ATTEND. Sydney, April 10. The Labour Council has accepted the invitation to the recruiting conference. —Press Assn.
