« Tho Castlcpoint County Council has •. endorsed the resolution of tho Auckland City Council in reference to the retention of Samoa by the British. The abundant growth of grass in tho Wa-irarapa is said to have been responsible for a heavy mortality amongst lambs. Tho Soldiers' Club in Masterton has been completed, and is now beinn; furnished. It is a very fine institution. A lad named Bedford has been admitted to the Masterton Hospital, suffering from a fractured;!eg. Another military deserter has been arrested in the Tinui district and handed over to the military authorities. It is stated that some of the returned soldiers who took up land in the Tiraumeu settlement are dissatisfied with their selections. Mr. G. R. Sykes, M.P., intends visiting the settlement to inquire "into any grievances that may exist. ; 'Ilie swimming baths which have been provided at the Fernridgo School, at a cost of about £160, were ofhcia ly opened on Thursday afternoon by Mr. G. K. Sykes, M.P. The Associated Auctioneers of the V/airarapa have decided to i.dopt the system in operation in tho South island, and to charge 2\ per cent., aimmission, plus yard fees. In the naJrarapa, however, yard fees will only be charged on stock that is sold. It is proposed to form companies in vs nous parts of the district to acquire the saloyards and run them as eo-opera-tivo concerns. Brandies of the Giris Red Cross Society have been formed m the Imui and Whareama districts. There are at present sixteen diphtheria patients in the Masterton Hosnital.
