SOLDIERS SENTENCED

THREE GET TWO YEARS' HARD LABOUR. In Trenthaai Gamp Orders it is announced that the following soldiers, having been found guilty by District Court-Martial of "disobeying in such a manner as to t'how wilful defiance of authority a 'lawful command given by their superior officer," have each /been sontencea to imprisonment with hard labour for two years:—

75,297 Private T. Kiely, Details; 75,296 Private H. Campbell, Details.

A sentence of two years' imprisonment with hard labour was also passed by district Court-Martial on 59,455 Private W. Riley, Details (late Thirtysecond Reinforcements), found guilty of: (1) Wlien tinder orders for active service, deserting His Majesty's' service; (2) deserting His Majesty's service; (81 losing by neglcot his equipment, clothing, and regimental necessaries. The sentence in however, has been mitigated so iliat if accused embarks for active service outside of New ZeaTand then, upon arrival at the final port of disembarkation, the unexpired portion of his sentence (if any) small be remitted, and his New Zealand records shall be endorsed accordingly.

No. 70/743 Pte. G. S. Duthie, Details (late 35th Reinforcements), found guilty when under orders for active service of deserting His Majesty's- Service, lias been sentenced to detention for 112 days. The sentence is mitigated so that if accused embarks for active service outside New Zealand, then upon arrival at the final port of disembarkation the unexpired portion of his sentence (if any) shall be remitted and his New Zealand records sliall bo endorsed accordingly.
