RED CROSS WORK.
WAR CONTINGENT ASSOCIATION'S CONTROL A CHANGE PROPOSED (Eec. March 31, 5.5 p.m.) ' i . London, March 29. The executive of the New Zealand .War Contingent Association considered Colonel Rhodes'a proposal to detach ; the Red Cross from the contingent's operations. Colonel Rhodes intimated that he had advised Lord Liverpool to terminate the contingent's control of the Red Cross. The latter desired greater prominence. Several members , di the executive- warmly resented tho contingent's, dismissal. It had carried out the work better than Canada or 'Australia. No force had been better looked after than the New Zealanders, and thero was absolutely no need for a change. Sir Thomas Mackenzie, New Zealand High Commissioner, who presided, suggested the alteration of the title to the Red Cross Contingent Association, which was preferable to dislocating an excellent organisation. The change was sought because information regarding its working was not properly circulated, although Colonel Moorhouse had been kept fully informed. Sir \Thomas Mackenzie added: "General ■Richardson and Colonel Parkes are entirely satisfied with the past werk. It is dangerous to change machinery when it is working efficiently." A committee was appointed to confer with the Red Cross. Committee.— ■" Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
