WELLINGTON HARBOUR
A meeting of the Wellington Harbour Board was held Inst night. There were' present: Messrs. C. E. Daniell j (chairman), R. Fletcher, R... E. Sinclair, A. MacFarlane, J. G. Cobbe, M. W. Welch, R. A. Wright, W. Cable, J. G. Harkness, W. Wallis, J. W. M'Evran, A. H. Hindmarsh, nnd Captain M'Arthur. The bank pass books showed a credit balance to current account of £34,321, to imprest account £2456, and on fixed deposits £60,000. Payments to the amount of £31,002 were, approved. It was reported by the chairman that the Treasury had paid the sum of £3250, advance towards the cost of erecting temporary additional cool store for chesec, into the board's account. On the proposal of tho Wharves and Accounts Committee tho bonrd ao;ren(l to appoint the chairman (Mr. C. E. Daniell), Mr. Fletcher, Mr. Hindmarsh, and Captain M'Arthur tobe the board's representatives at the annual conference of the Harbours Association. A number of proposed remits to tho Harbours Conference were submitted to the board, and approved. Most of them were old relating to dues on mail steamers, Government vessels, and Government cargo. The only new proposal was one submitted by Mr. Welch—That in counties, as in boroughs, the franchise for harbour board elections should be simply residential. At present in boroughs the electoral qualification is a residential one, whereas in counties only ratepayers vote.
