PROCEEDS FOU SOLDIERS' ' . CHILDREN. The book "Historic Trentham," written by' Will Lawson, which was published last-year, has now run into a second edition. -To bring this fact- moro prominently before the public, and also the purpose to which tJie proceeds from the sales are to be put, a sp:cial display is being made in the windows of Whitcombe and Tombs, Ltd., Lambton Quay.' • The fund, which has been established by the sale of the first edition of the book, and will be augmented by the sale of this edition, will provide for scholarships for and daughters of soldiers who have fallen in the war. The conditions" governing the granting of these scholarships are similar to those of the Junior and Senior National Scholarships. Tho same examinations will serve, as the Trentham scholarships are to be given to the next on the list of those who sat for the National Scholarships and are qualified to hold them. These qualifications simply lay down that the scholars must be the children of fallen soldiers, in the first place New Zealand soldiers, but provision' is also made for the children of soldiers from all parts of the Empire who have died in the defence of their country's rights and liberties.
