THE RED TRIANGLE SURPLUS
WHY NOT HELP THE VICTIMS OF THE BUSH FIRES? Sir,—Under the leading of a "Great Appeal, a Noblo Response," which appeared in tho "Evening l'ost" recently, from the Y.M.C.A., the association must bo highly congratulated upon their splendid achievement of their efforts, coupled with the noble generosity of the Wellington public, by the oversubscribed amount of £11,000. But at tho time of this great appeal no ono knew of the dire calamity that was about to overtake tho centro of the North Island by the disastrous firo which spread its terrors throughout Raetihi and surrounding country. Therefore, may Ibe permitted to suggest through your columns to + ho Y.M.C.A. that the above-mentioned sum or surplus at the disposal r.f the officials be transferred to the sufferers, so that it will tend to alleviate the dire distress that so many are suffering, thus establishing the ever ready response which the Y.M.C.A. always meet in a righteous cause that requires assistance.—l am, etc., G.H.
