The ordinary monthly meeting of the members of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held yesterday. . Mr. F. Meadowcroft presided. The society's inspector got in touch with a correspondent 'at Picton who had written to the local complaining of tho cruelty inflicted in the shipping of cattle, but the correspondent was unable to give such information as would enable the society to take action. The inspector's report on tho inquiries and work done by him during the past month was read and adopted. "■ The subscriptions for two weeks eliding March 19 were as follow:— Wellington Meat Export Co., £2 25.; Mr.lVLamberg, £1 Is.; Mrs. AV.
