THE WAR BADGE
CONDITIONS OP ISSUE.
Regulations dealing with the issue in New Zealand of tho silver waij badge are published in General Orders. The badge will be in the form of the Imperial cipher, pierced within a circle. The circle bears tho words, "For King aud Empire —Services lleudered." Each badge will bear a serial number. Tho badge will be worn with plain clothes only, on the right breast or on the right lapel of the jackot. The following members who have served with tho Forces since August i, 1914/ will be eligible to make application for and wear the silver war badge:— (a) Service overseas—(l) Officers: All officers who have served overseas as above, and who have, on return, to Now Zealand, been gazetted out of the Forces on account of old age, wounds, or illness, provided that their disabilities are not the result of their own actions ior misconduct. (2) Members of the N.Z JLN.S. afc in (1). . (3) N.0.0.'s and men: N.0.0.'s and men of the Forces who have served as above and who have been discharged on account of. old age, wounds, or illness, provided such disabilities are not the result of their own actions or misconduct.
(b) Service at home: Officers, members of the N.Z.A.N.S., N.C.O.'s, and men who have served in New Zealand for a period of not less .than six months, and who have been gazetted out of the Forces, discharged or reverted to civil life, on account of being over age or permanently unfit for further military service, provided that their disabilities'have not been the result of th«ir own actions or misconduct. (c) General: Persons whoso claims are not covered, by the abovo regulations will be eligible to receive the silver war badge at the discretion of the Commandant, after reference, if necessary, to the Army Couniil in England. . The badgo will be issued automatically to officers and men gazetted' out of the Force's or discharged subseouent to February 28, 1918. Officers and men who left the forces prior to that date and who aro eligible to receive the badge niust make application to tho Director of Base Records, lien who have qualified by service at homo must make application to the Director of Recruiting, who will forward the application with tho necessary papers to the Director of Base Records. A card of authority to wear will be issued with the silver war badge. This card will contain the number, rank, and namo of the officer or other person entitled to wear the badge, and will state that he or she is so entitled. When wearing tho badge this card of authority must always be carried, and must be produced when required by, any member of tho military police or other authorised person. It must be understood that the rotention o; the card is essential in order to show that tho wearer has been properly issued with the badgo and is entitled to wear it.
