Tho Hon. G. W. Russell returned to Wellington by tho Main Trunk train last night.

.Regimental Sorgcant-Major J. H. Cliing, R.N.Z.A., has been promoted to warrant rank.

Mr. Otto Wadsted, the Royal Danish Consul-General who has been appointed Danish Consul in Now Zealand, is staying a few days in .Wellington, and intends to tour both tho North and the South Islands.

' Thoro died at hor late residence, Oriental Street, Petone, on Monday, Mrs. A. A. Jamieson, at tho ago of 77 years. Mrs. Jamieson was a daughter of the lato Captain Lea, of the East India Service, who was a member of a well-known military family* ono of whom was General Lea, of the Imperial Service Mrs. Jamieson had been in failing health for some time. She is survived by her husband. Her sistor, Mrs. Knight, resides in Dunedin.

Mr. A. E. Cheal, assistant tramway engineer to tho Wanganui Borough Council, has been appointed to tho position of works manager of tho British War Department's wireless and telephone factory No. 3. Mr. Cheal left for England oarly last year, and, after passing several examinations in aeronautics, signalling, etc., was on the. eve of crossing to the firing-line when he received orders to tako up the position mentioned.

Among those who returned from the front in the last drafts to arrive was Sergeant-Major J. Luke, a nephew of Messrs. J. P. Luke and 0. M._ Luke, and for some years connected with the legal staff of Messrs. Brown and Dean, in Wellington.

Private Ken. Swincy, formerly a Wellington pressman, has returned to Wellington from France, via England.
