A: conference of local bodies is to be hold in Masterton on April 10, to further consider the allocation of the cost of erecting a bridge over the Waingawa River. Harvest thanksgiving services vera held by the Salvation Army in iMasterl.on on Sunday mid Monday. Mr. W. Kerr, S.M., dismissed the charge against John O'Dowd of being unlawfully on the premises of a- certain boardinghouse. Tile defence raised was that the defendant had gone to the house by invitation of one of the occupants. A sum of £300 was raised by the Rqd Cross girls in Masterton on Saturday in aid of the Red Triangle appeals. The Wairarapa contributions new amount to £8000. The Carterton Lawn Tennis Club defeated the Masterton Club on Saturday by fifteen games to five. The shield matches in connection with the Wairarapa Bowling Centre were concluded on Saturday, when Carterton defeated Eketahuna by two points. The Carterton Club has this year won the Booth Cup, the- shield, "and the Grady medals. Good entries are being received for the bowling tournament to be held in Masterton at Easter. In a bowling match played on the Featherston green on Saturday the military representatives, Douglas, Hay, M'Donald, and Heron (s), were successful against Bladen, Bartlett, Horsbrugh. and Benton (s.), by 19 points to 18. Colonel N. P. Adams has been elected patron of the Featherston Golf Club, Mr. Bruce Speedy president, with Mr. George Fenwick as captain and Mr. A. T. J. Shaw lion; secretary. The season is to be opened on April 20.
