LIFE BOAT AND BUOY FOUND
LOSS OF AN AMERICAN VESSEL BEARED. The Secretary of the Tost and Telegraph Department lias been advised by tlio Chief Postmaster at Napier that a life hoat and a life buoy have been washed up oil the beach about three miles north of the mouth of the Wairoa River. The American flag aud tho name of an overseas sailing vessel, which was laden with benzine for Messrs. Bannatyne and Co., of Wellington, are painted oil the buoy. 1' rom the fact that wreckage had been previously found at another part of tno East Coast, there is every reason to believe that disaster had overtaken the vessel to which the life boat and liio buoy belonged. A Press Association message from Wairoa received yesterday afternoon stated: The police received a report last ovening that a boat, apparently a captain's gig, had been found on the beach at Tuliara, seven miles from Wairoa. It was partlv damaged, and had painted on it the name of a ship, surmounted bv a star. An Aniprican flag was found lying in the bottom of the boat. There was a lifebelt 011 board. The watertight compartments are_ intact. Tho police are out investigating.
