SEPARATION ALLOWANCE

SOME AMENDED REGULATIONS. Amended regulations regarding tho payment of separation allowance to depondante of Isew Zealand soldiers are announced as follow:— "Separation allowance, is not payable to guardians of motherless children when no children's allowance is drawn. When a child reaches tbo ago of ]6 years and children's allowance ccasos, no further issues to tho guardian'will be made. "With reference to the separation allowance of Is. 6d. a day payable- under certain conditions to widowed mothers of members of the- New Zealand Expeditionary Force, the present regulations under which payment of tho allowance, is inado will in futuro be proportionately relaxed in particular cases as regards the stipulation of a minimum allotment of 3s. a day to tho mother, where tho soldier establishes that ho is unable to make such an allotment, or caii only make a smaller allotment by reason of having to .provide for the maintenance of his wife or other dependants. Each, case will bo dealt with on it<s own merits.

"It is notified for generals-informa-tion that from January 1, 1918J the Now Zealand Government will'contribute to tho wives residing in New Zealand of Imperial Reservists and Imperial soldiers tho differenco between Imperial and Now Zealand Expedition-

ary Force rates of pay for corresponding rallies. • The separation Allowance granted by the Imperial Government will no longer be adjusted with iho New Zealand grant, but tho latter will be in addition thereto. Payments will bo mado by tho Treasury. "Where officers of tho N.Z; Expeditionary Force are dismissed from the Forces while abroad, and are leing returned to Now Zealand, it has been approved that from December 10, 1917, payment of field •allowance according to rank may be issued to them from the date of dismissal to tho date of embarkation to New Zealand, and that any allotments and separation allowances heing paid to dependants in Now Zealand may be continued until tho date of the officer's arrival in New Zealand."
