0 CHAMPION RINKS CONCLUDED • WIN FOR HATAITAI , The final in the chanlpion of champion rinks was concluded on the Wellington green yesterday afternoon, when the Hataitai Club's representatives registered a good win against Petone. The weather was_ ideal—bright sunshino and no wind—and the play throughout was of a high standard and always interesting. The fact that only eleven points were recorded altogether in the first eleven heads shows that tho game was keenly contested, and that of those eleven heads Hataitai scored eight times wae another in-' dication that the "tunnelldrs" were-on their game. Hataitai broke the monotony by notching two on the twelfth, and, the ice being cracked, Petone got a couple on the thirteenth head, when tho score was 10—5 in favour of Hataitai. On the fourteenth, Chisholm lay tho shot, whon Melhuish chipped him off, and trailed the jack back three feet, and -lay the shot. With his second he drew another shot in an awkward position, but Cheosmau, with his last bowl, drew a nice shot, getting a tiny wick which , carried him to safety—ll—s. M'Ewan. lay_ tlie shot, on tho next heafl until Claridgo chivvied the jack back to one of Petone's rear bowls. Cheesman again got -the helpful wick, and once more lay shot, 12—5. The sixteenth head promised some excitement. Melhuish, with a good trail, carried the jack back to a nest of four Petono bowls. Clnridge just missed being dangerous. Chees■man drew a second, which„ Beynon chipped, out, leaving Petone lying, three, 12—8.. The seventeenth head was a full-length one, and the drawing was wide all, round. iChisnolm lay the shot a yard away on the flank, :wheu the skips went down, and -though Beynon tried to shift him off with fast runs, tho Hataitai bowls were untouched: 14—8. On the eighteenth M'Ewan .got two nice shots on tlje jack, and Eobertson drew another. Claridgo came with a run, and carried the jack back to a Hataitai , bowl. Molhuisli got the shot bowl away, and Beynon, with hia first howl, shifted another enemy bowl, leaving Petone lying three.. Cheesnian then drew, a beautiful shot, which Beynon promptly chipped off (with others), leaving Petone with a single t*> their credit: 14—9. On t'ne nineteenth head, Feeding, who waa leading admirably, drew a couplo o f beautiful shots a foot away from the jack, and they still lay com-, fortably when tho skips went down _to play. Beynon tried twice to drive thein off, hut was wide on each occasion, whilst Cheejmnn drew another , . 17--9. On tho twentieth-head Feilding again drew two beautiful shots; Robertson drove the jack out to near t]je boundary, but Chisholm drew the- shot there, and Claridgo followod_ suit. Melhuish drove hard, and the jack, striking a bowl, rebounded to tho centre of the rink, where Petono had a handy bowl. Cheesman drew into second place. Beynon drew another fine shot, and Choeseinan ran through, leaving Petono two,up: 17—11:' "With six to got to tie, Petone's lamp of hope burned dim. Feilding, with uncanny persistency, drew a nice shot, which Robertson faced off, leaving M'Ewan's howl lying tie shot nearly a yard away. Claridge drew inside with line judgment, but Molhuish, who played consistently good bowls, trailed the jack bade to two of his own bowls. Claridgo drew tho third shot, and Melhuish took one oi : his own bowls out with a drive. Boynon, essaying to burn the head, drove wide with both bowls, and with' his second took- out his own shdt3, leaving Hataitai lying thVeo and the game. The scores were:—Hataitai—Feuding, Oliisholm, Claridge, Cheesman (s.), 20; Petone—M'Ewan, Eobertson, Melhuish, Beynon (s.), 11. It is worthy of mention that all three Centre championships this season liave been, won by suburban clubs. Eastbourne won the sinfles and pairs, and Hataitai 'he rinks.
