OPIUM SMUGGLERS
SYDNEY POLICE ELUDED.
(Rec. March 14, 8.40 p.m.) Sydney, March 14. 'Acting on information that it was intended to smuggle opium from a vessel in Mort's Dock, two hidden policemen saw two men land two heavy bags, which are supposed to have contained £30P0 worth of opium, and convey them to a waiting motor-car, which was immediately started. Tho polico attempted to stop the ci.r, and emptied their revolvers at it. Other police stationed further along made similar unavailing efforts. Later, a car, with four bullet-holes in varioue parts, was found abandoned, but thcro was no trace of tho opium.—Press Assn.
