DRIVERS PENALISED
FOR LEAVING WITHOUT NOTICE. , By Toleeraph-Prces Aeeooiation.. Palmerston North March 13. At the Magistrate's Court, before Mr. L. G. Reid, S.M., Bernard Hooker was dialed with committing a breach of tlie Palmerston North drivers' award by leaving the employment of H. T. Flyer without giving a. week's notice. Mr. H. J. Torbit (Inspector of Awards) prosecuted, and defendant pleaded guilty. Mr. Torbit said that the defendant, who had been in charge of a team of horses, had left without giving any notice. The first intimation that the employer received was a telegram from defendant from Napier stating that he was on holiday and would not be baclc. Defendant was convicted and ordered to pay £3. A similar charge was mado against ■\Y. J. Hall (who failed to appear). Defendant was convicted and ordered to pav a penalty of £3. Mr. Torbit drew tho Court's attention to tho fact that drivers frequently had mado ft practice of leaving thoir employment without notice, causing great inconvenience to employers, as competent drivers were not easily procurable.
