» . RESOLUTION OF CONGREGATIONAL UNION. By Telegraph—Pres3 Association. Christchuroh, March 13. The Congregational Union passed the following resolution: "That this council of tho Congregational Union of New Zealand, having considered the motions submitted by the Christchurcli delegates to the council, resolves as follows: (1) That this terrible war wan forced upon a reluctant world by Germany in pursuance of its lust for world domination; (2) that our Empire entered the war and remains in the war in defence of tho principles of liberty and juetice. and for tho protection of the rights of tho smaller nations; (3) that in this great struggle for the maintenance of Christian principles it is the d'lty of every citizen to render the best and fullest service to the nation of which he or she is capable; (4) that tho present test of conscience bo replaced by evidence as to the appellant's character, and the genuineness of his claims; (5) that all honeet conscientious objectors be offered national serviro of a non-military character; (6) that every punishment for breaches of the law or for attempted defiance of the law =hould be reasonable in character and should he. inflicted within the bounds of New Zealand; (7) that copies of the foregoing resolutions to the Prime Miniate , , the Minister of Finance, and tho Minister o! Defence."
