Fisk Jubilee singers. . ■ The. Fisk .Jubilee Singers: are coming to New Zealand' again. , The only familiar names on tho bill aro Miss Belle Gibbons, tho lady baritone* and Professor White. Other members of tho I company are: Misses Alice Baptiote, Leila Wyburd, Bertha Miller, Messrs. Harold Wilson, Marshall Palmer, Sid. ' Haynos, Les Belcher—all new to the Dominion. The old Jubileo choruses and part-songs still figure prominently on the programmes. American Opera. The now opera, "Azora," by Henry Hadley, was given its premiere on December 26 in Chicago by the Grand Opera Company. An Eastern writer speaks of it, as interesting, and that it is a grand opera without being necessarily American: that it might, havo been composed by a Frenchman, Italian, or even a German. The first net is said to be tho best, having brilliance, and that if.the'work had continued in• its first burst of inspirational quality the opera would have reached a high plane among the compositions of the day; The orchestration has tho same melodious nature which characterises many of Hadley's works, and the writer adds that "Azora" is dignified and worthy of a place among American works. If Edwin Lemare can thus "stoop to conquer," why should not pur own city organist unbend a little, just"to'tickle tho ears of tho groundlings and a few others?
