THIRTY-FOUR SLIPS ENGAGED.

London, March 7. Dr. T. J. Macnamara (Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty) announced, jn the House of Commons that tho three national shipyards for assembling standard ships comprised thirty-four slip 3. He hoped that all would be completed in twelve months, and that the hist keel would be laid in April, and the first ship launched in October. The Government's anticipations regarding the number of men to be released from the Army for shipbuilding had not yet been realised.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.

COMMERCIAL SHIPBUILDING UNSATISFACTORY.

London, March 7. In the Chamber of Shipping, Sir J. It. Ellerman moved a resolution, which was carried, regretting tho unsatisfactory progress with commercial shipmiilding, which wis due to taking the initiative out of the hands of private owners. The number of standard ships produced in a yenr did not equal the sinkings for a fortnight.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.
