TECHNICAL EDUCATION
MEETING OF THE BOARD. 'Ilio monthly meeting of the Wellington Technical Education Board was held last evening, Mr. Goorgo Frost presiding. There were also present: Messrs. T. Bellinger, L. R. Partridge, A. AtIciii, T. Forsytli, G. M. Luke, and G. L. Stewart. The Wellington Scliool Committees , Association wrote asking what conditions would entitle the association to representation on the board. The association was informed tliiJt those, bodies contributing £10 to the funds had representation. , The association had accordingly forwarded £10, and the Minister of Education will decide on the representation.
Tlia deputation from the Education Board that waited on the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Education with respect to a site for Technical College buildings made their report.
Mr. T. Ballinger said he was disgusted with the treatment that the deputation received. It transpired that tho Government had appointed a commission to consider the Mount Cook site, and among other purposes it was suggested by'the commission that the site should be used for a university, which would mean that more land would have to be bought, for there was not room enough for a university, tho Technical College, and the Art Gallery.. Sir Joseph Ward, however, said it was not intended to build the university on that site. The building of a university on the eite was entirely a new question to the members cf the deputation, and it was a side issue intended to put them off.
Mr. Forsyth said his former opinion in regard to the attitude of the National Government had been confirmed, in that the matter of technical education was not taken seriously by the National Government. That was probably because there was no tangible evidence of £s. d. resulting from i£. He believed, however, that as a result of the deputation the board would heatsomething definite on the subject. Mr. C M. Luke said that the deputation served one useful purpose, "for it showed that the Government was not in ssTnpath.v with technical education. The deputation had impressed l upon the Ministers that something had to bo done for technical education.
