LIFE-SAVING SOCIETY
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. A meeting of the executive committee of the Wellington Head Centre of the Royal Life-Saving Society was held at the Boys' Institute on Monday evening. Mr. G. S. Hill presided. Notification was received from the City Council to the effect that four officers of tho centre would be granted free admission to Te Avo s ßaths each Wednesday afternoon from i o'clock until closing time. Tho society desires to see more extensive life-saving competitions, and wishes to encourage the work among those frequenting the baths. j In a letter, Mr. J. P. Firth; principal at Wellington College, expressed appreciation of the splendid work carried out by the society among college students.
A sub-committee was set up to assist in the management of the carnival to be held at Tβ Aro Baths shortly by the Ladies' Life-Saving and Amateur Swimming Club. The chairman paid a high tribute to the , excellent work accomplished in Wellington by the ladies. For the purpose of ensuring uniformity, the secretaries of all clubs and the instructors of all detached classes are to be instructed to advise the secretary of the head centre of the establishment of all new classes.
Authority was given for the establishment of a sub-centre at Nelson, where life-saving matters have been "dead" for some time.
Mr. H. Bird was elected to the position of examiner, in place of Mr. Andrew Dixon, who has been transferred, to Hamilton.
It was decided to establish a special class of instruction for school teachers, and it is expected that many teachers will avail themselves of the opportunity of attending. It is hoped that they will subsequently impart the knowledge they gain to their scholars. It was also decided to request tho Education' Board to' grant a school holiday one afternoon towards the end of the month for tho purpose of holding the competition for tho school challenge shield.
