THIEVES AT THE BATHS

LADY BATHERS SUFFER. There has been a good deal of thieving from the ladies' baths at Tβ Aro during the .last lew weeks. Owing to the big crowds of schoolchildren and others who patronise the waters on walrm summer <lays- many bathers have had to undress on the open platforms when unable (which is often the case) to secure the desirable privacv of a dressing-room, with the result that clothes are thrown everywhere, and the dishonest have little difficulty in lifting other than their own clothes when about to depart. Ono lady bather recently lost her silk blouse, slip-bodice, and even her corsets, whilst another grieved- to find her new black patent leathor shoos stolen, and in their place was left a shabby down-at-the-heel pair. Those patronising the baths on summer days are warned to leave their best at homo, and to koop an eye on what they do leave about the landings. Tho frequent losses sustained of late arc a strong argument in favour of further dressing-room accommodation at the ladies' baths. Tho caretaker (Mr. J, Calnan) says that more dressing*rooms are very badly needed, and suggests that they could bo provided by building across the Quay end- of the baths, and doing away with the children's pool altogether.
