NUMEROUS APPEALS
PRIESTS AND MINISTERS TEM PORARILY EXEMPTED,
The First Military Service Board sat again yesterday. The members of the hoard are Messrs. D. G. A. Cooper (president), D. M'Laren, and G. C. Williams. Captain Walker is the military representative.
The Bishop of Wellington appealed for the following clergymen:—Revs. John Charles Abbott, Mavtiiiborough; Richard Godfrey, Masterton; Richard H; Hobday, Eltham; Herbert Watson, Wellington.
Exemptions sine die were granted. Mr. H. E. Evans, counsel for the Bishop, said that Rev. Mr. Watson was vicar, of St. Peter's, in which parish he had only one assistant, instead of two. There were two vacancies already ill the diocese—one at Ashhurst and one at Tainui.
Respecting the case of Rev. Mr. Godfrey, the board consented to recommend that he should be granted a passport to Melanesia, where it is intended he should work for some time.
Exemptions sino die were granted to the following officers of the Salvation Army:—John Graham, Waipawa; C. Bracegirdle, Dargaville; E. Bower, Eltham; J. Medlaud, Island Bay; J. H. S. Exemption sine die was granted Rev. L. Morris, Baptist minister, North-East Vailey, Dunedin;
The following Catholic priests were exempted sine'die: —Rev. Fathers J. Bowe, Dannovirke; A. V. Venning, Wellington: J. Kelly, Kaikoura; D. H. Hurley'and Thomas Roche, •'Wellington; M. A. Cashman, Wellington'; M. Devoy, Newtown; J. J. Seymour, Newtown; E. !3. Phelan, Masterton; C. Casey, Napier: P. Quealey, Petone; H. J. Herring, Blenheim; V. P. Kelly, New Plymouth; M. B. Doolaghty, M.8., Opunake; A. J. Cullen, Wellington; J. N. Joyce, Napier; D. M'Laugnlin, Patea; M. J. Dowling, Napier.
Sine die exemption was granted in the cases of the following Marist. Brothers:—W. J. Cody, Christchurch; J. F. Welsh, M. J. Jackson, A. H. Somerville, Wellington; and P. J. Moran, Wanganui.
Dr. Valintino, Chief Health Officer} asked the board to exempt Dr. J. E. Gilmour, of Roxburgh, until the reservist's brother. Captain Gilmour, returns from the front. The'application was granted.
The Public Health Department obtained exemption sine die of Frank Furnese, sanitary inspector, Rotoma. The appeal of Howard G. Keith, who had been wrongly classified, was allowed.
Leave till August was granted Ernest Walker, mechanic, for whom the Gear Meat Company appealed. Frederick J. Brocklebank stated that he was under age, and his appeal was allowed. -
Leave till June 26 was granted; John F. Gallery, signal erector, Now' Zealand Railways.

W. Eno, clicker, Lyall Bay, appealed on the ground that he had been wrongly classified. The- appeal was allowed. Leslie Innes Day, student, had his appeal allowed on the ground that he was under age.
C. F, Hall', watchmaker, 'F. G. Mountier, mechanic, M.. M. Pollock, clerk, S. 6. Stephenson, civil servant, being under age, had their cases dismissed.
Alfred W. Foote, carpenter, was exempted sine die. His appeal was on the ground of undue hardship., Leave till July 3 was allowed Thomas Reeves, farmer, Johnsonville, who appealed on the ground of family' obligations.
Bernard Francis Lynch and Harold Joseph Lynch were appealed for by their father, who had already lost two sons at the front. The board decided that one son should go. It dismissed the appeal for Harold Lynch, and granted exemption sine die to Bernard Lynch. ,
