THE EAST COAST STORM
■ $ CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE DONE IN POVERTY BAY. By Telegraph-Press Association. Cisborne, March 5. A storm is raging along the coast, with heavy rain, and the rivers are flooded. The Waipawa River overflowed its banks at midnight, and a portion or the flats is inundated. Considerable damage has been done to maize and other crops. Precautions taken will lessen the losses of stock. . Railway traffic is interrupted. WEATHER CLEARING AT NAPIER. Napier, Marclf 5. The sea has moderated considerably to-day. The Arahura landed her passengers at the breakwater this morning. The other steamer is still out in the bay. . ■ The Ngaruroro and Tutakun Rivers are overflowing their banks at Waima and Meeanee respectively.. The Ngaruroro rose very rapidly last night, but the settlers appear to have been prepared for a flood. The weather cleared locally at noon, but the rivers are rising still. As the sea is moderating a serious flood is unlikely. T , Later. The eea is now subsiding. The heavy rains caused a small flood, but no damage is
