—. RACE FOR MILLS MEMORIAL. Splendid weather prevailed on Saturday afternoon, when the first contew foi tho Mills Memorial Cup took place. A light south-easterly windprevailed, and the sea was comparatively calm. There were eight entries, hut as the Waitangi, the scratch boat, did not return from the' Sounds in time, there were only seven starters. They were as follow:—Kotiri 26min., Rona 34mm., Atalanta 30min., Wairere 1 iJijimn., White Heather 35min„ White Wings 37min., and Viola 45min. The ! Atalanta and White Wings led to Koro Koro, and were first round the buoy. On the beat up to the-Pinnacle Buoy the Viola began to' move up, and was I first round that mark, followed bv the Atalanta and the 'Rona. Tho Kotiri lost what chance she had by hugging the eastern shore. The wind at the finish was light, and all the boats carried the maximum amount of sail. Following is the result of the race, with the times of the various boats: Viola, Ghr. 26min. 30sec, 1; Atalanta, 6br. 42min. 15sec; 2; Rona, 6hr. SQmin., 3.
