RED TRIANGLE DAY APPEAL
—. TO-MORROW NIGHT'S DEMONSTRATION. At the citizens' demonstration, to be held at tho Town Hall to-morrow night, Mr. Harold Beauchamp will be in the ohair in tho absence of the Mayor. Short addresses will be given by the Prime Minister, the Minister of Defence, Sir Joseph Ward, and Mr. A. 11. Hindmarsh, M.P. By the courtesy of Fullers' Theatres and Vaudeville, Ltd.,, Mri 1/hilip Newbury and Miss Amy Murphy will sing in tho Red Triangle cause. The kinematograph items are being- provided by the New Zealand Picture Supplies, Ltd., and the main film will be one which has not previously been shown in' Wellington, showing an exciting of tho Battle of Messiucs. Another film will depict the Rt. Hon. W. F. Massey up in'an aeroplane. , BIG BEACH CARNIVAL. The happy mingling of aquatic and laud sports is the aim of tho rjromo'ters of the monster beach gala, to ho held at Island Bay on Saturday next, in connection with the Red Triangle Day movement. The gala has been organised by the Island Bay Surf and Lite-Saving Club for the double purpose of officially opening the diving pier, recently erected by the City Council, and, at the same time, of raising funds for the Red Triangle appeal. Judging ..'by the work being put' in by the strong committees which have 'been elected, the only factor now necessary to make the fete a success is fine weather. The programme is a most comprehensive one, including events of every description. A treasure hunt, not for one treasure but for hundreds of treasures, will be a feature, and the ocean boat race, in fishermen's boats, right around tho islaud, will' be sure to attract the attention' of many. So will the babies : races, for toddlers under four years of 'age, and the high and fancy diving, and the numerous other events. . The charge to be. made for the wholo outing, including tram fares, from the city and back, afternoon tea and the music of tho Patriotic Society's Band, is Is. A campaign for the sale of tickets is now iu full swing. These will be available by a special service of cars, leaving Courtenay Place at frequent intervals, the return trip terminating at the same point. The ordinary time-table will also be run, so that there will lx> no limit to the numbers that can he carried to this unique carnival.
