The Letter Carriers' Association and the Postal Sorters' "Union of Australia are protesting against the use of bicycles for the delivery of letters by postmen. At the inter-State Conference recently concluded it was decided that the executive, if considered necessary, should warn youths of the physical consequences of. excessive use of the bicycle. Ji was alleged that many postmen who rode these machines in performing: their duty were being undermined in health.

Mention was made of a postal employee at Murrumbnrrah. It was seated that when a bicycle was substituted for a horso his health started to fail. Then, it was alleged, the Department allowed him to use his horse, but would not grant him a forage allowance. The financial strain was too much for him, and he was compelled to use the bicycle again. The result was that his health was so impaired that the Department had to send him to another district.
