A SOUTH-EASTERLY GALE
An ex-tropical cyclone, travelling noith-east of the Bay of Plenty, has been responsible for strong south-east-erly winds in and northward of Cook Strait, and Wellington has had its full share of the blast. The immediate outlook, according to tho Government Meteorologist, is far from bright. Indications point to south-easterly gales northward of Farewell Spit and Kaikouia, and moderate to strong easterly to northerly winds increasing elsewhere. Unsettled and cloudy weather is probable generally, and stormy conditions are likely with heavy rain and rivers rising in tho East Coast districts of the North Island. Tho barometer is unsteady in the north, and is oxpected to fall soon in the south.
