c. /There was a large gathering of the Christchurch Bar at the Supreme Court i yesterday, when Mr. Justice Herdman took his seat for the first time. Mr. Donnelly, presidont of the Canterbury Law Society, and Mr. S. G. Raymond, vice-president, welcomed tho new Judge, who briefly replied. He expressed a hope that tho loyal co-operation of the Bar would enable him to do good for the community.—Press Assn. The Hon. G. W. Russell will return to Wellington from the Bay of Plenty and Rotorua -by the Main Trunk express to-day. Tho Rev. W. A.- Keay, assistant to the vicar of St. Mark's Church, Wellington, has accepted nomination as vicar of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Khyber Pass, Auckland. He expects to take up his duties in Auckland early in May. Mr. C. B. Robertson died on Sunday at his residence, Raroa Road, Kelburn. Afr. Robertson was for many years connected with the firm of Sarttood, Sou and Eweu, and left that service to enter on the practice of a public accountant, after having passed tho examination of the Incorporated Institute of Accountants. Mr. Robertson leaves a widow and one child. Mr. Howard Nattrass is about to pay a visit to America. Mr. 11. Harris, of Sydney, formerly of the Wellington firm of and Bastin, is a visitor to the city. Laurence Jamieson, C.Q.M.L., A.T.8., reported killed in action on November 16, 1917, in France, was the fourth son of tho late Mr. W. Jamieson. Ho was born at Cobden, and was 32 years ,of age. He started work in the Wellington telegraph office, and was in the post office at Tc Kuitiwhen war broke out. Ho joined the 16th Waikato Battalion, and left with the Main Body, being at the landing at Gallipoli. He was wounded in June, 1914. He went to Sling Camp in April, 1915, and left for France last May with a new battalion formed at Codford. Word has been received by Mr. J. A. Dudson, Carterton, that one of his sons, Sub-Lieutenant Walter Dudson, is returning home on the next hospital ship to arrive in New Zealand. Lieutenant Dudson is sent homo on duty, and is reported to be in excellent health.
