METHODIST CONFERENCE
By Telegraph—Press Association. Ounedin, March 1. The Methodist Confereace to-day appointed a Standing Committee, The clergy are already known. The following layman were elected .-—Auckland, Messrs. T. W. Jones and J. Veale; South Auckland, Messrs. G. H. Gilling mid W. llichardsj Taranaki and Wanganui, Messrs. C. E. Bellringer and E. Dixon; Hawko's Bay and Manawatu, Messrs. W. H. Johnston and F. Guy; Wellington, Messrs. S. Martin and W. Armitage; Nelson, Messrs. L. White and W. Warren; North Canterbury ; Messrs. J. Bhckwell and K, Turner : South Canterbury, Messrs. W. Invin and- W. Lill; Otago, Messrs. B. llosevear and D. C. Camerou,-jun.: Southland, Messrs. A.. Froggart and E. Smitb.
Tlio conference adopted the following order of circuits, talcing married instead of single, ministers: Mania, Invercargill (Toviot Street), Rotorua, Tauranga. • It was decided' to relieve tho following circuits for another year from the responsibility of taking a married instead of a single minister: Auckland East, Otakuhu, Paeroa, Opotiki, St. iUbans, Timnru.
Tho Rev. 3. G. Chapman was appointed to tho Taranaki Street Church, Wellington, for the eighth year, and the Rev. Mr. Boys to Palmereton North for tlie sixth year. The Rev. Mr. Suckling was transferred to tho Now South Conference for missionary work. It is understood that he will be appointed to Fiji. : The resignation of the Rev. Mr. Daniels, who has taken up Y.M.C.A. secretarial work, was accepted.
The president's action in permitting the Rov. Messrs. Gosnell and Sim to go abroad as Y.M.C.A. secretaries wae approved. The Jtev. Mr. Wilson was transferred to the New South Wales Conference. ,
It was decided to request that the Rev.' Mr. Poole, Fiji, be transferred to New Zealand Conference in 1919.
The Rev. Mr. Costain ■ was granted permission to enlist. t Tile following ministers were permittod to become permanent supernumeraries: The Rev. Messrs. Baumher,'Hudfion, Blifrht, and Griffin. The Rev. Mr. Marshall 1 was allowed to continue ,as stop™unwary for another year. Tho following wer« received as probationers: Messrs. Wallace Noal, John Parker, and Thomas Sknsc.
