MASTERTON
At a special meeting of tho Masterton District High School Committee, exception was taken to the fact that the committee had nob beon consulted in tho matter of the proposal to erect a second school in tho district. It was decided: "That the matter of remodelling tho small rooms at the Masterton District High School be brought under tho notice of the Minister of Education as being tho most urgent educational need in Masterton. 1,
Mr. D. Parton has resigned his position as chairman of the Mastertou Soldiers' Entertainment Committee, and Mr. H. Hugo has been appointed in his stead.
Reports of electrical experts and engineers on the proposed Wairarnpa hydro-electrical scheme will be submitted to a meoting of delegates from local bodies on Marcb 2.
A pupil from the Master.ton District High School, who has secured a bursary at Lincoln College, is anxious to become a farmer. The regulations, however, provide that ho shall become a teacher. Tho Masterton District High School Committee has adversely criticised the regulations.
Two Cnrtcrton bowlers (Harp and Baskiville) en "Wednesday defeated Hope and Harrison, of Masterton, for the Grady medals.
A very attractive exhibit of crenel work was made at tho Masterton Horticultural Show on Wednesday by n returned soldier, Private-B. S. Larsen, who is at present, an occupant of the local hospital. Private Larsen acquired a knowledge of the work while a patient in the Walton-on-Thames Hospital.
The gross takings at the Masterton Horticultural Show on Wednesday amounted to £30 11s. The <*champion rose and aster were shown by Miss A. Micboll, and the' champion dahlia byMr. James Allan.
The Masterton District High .School Committee, while noting tlie recommendation of the Wellington Education Board in regard to the nnpointment of a teacher, Tins 'expressed regret that fcl:d testimonials of another candidate, have not been sent along.
No bankruptcies havß been recorded in tho AVairarapa during tho month of February.

At the monthly meeting of the Cafterton Borough Council the treasurer reported receipts since last meoting £1214 4s. 10d., of which £1000' was a further draw upon the water extension loan, and £I*6l 14s. 2d. from gas. Accounts amounting to £63 17s. 4d. were passed for payment. Tho District High School,was granted tho privilcgo of usinp; the baths, with tho right to charge for admission. The Mayor (Mr. G. Hughnn) -was appointed delegate to represent the borough at the conference of delegates of local bodies in connection witli the Wairarapn hydro-electric investigation scheme. Mr. K. Goodin was appointed ranger at a remuneration of £7 10s. nor annum, and alt poundage fees. A committee consisting of the Mayor and Councillors Hughes, Kitchen, and 'Callister was appointed to go into the question of a town hall, and report at next meeting.
