Horses have ' hitherto formed the main feature of the show* hut .this year the cattle entries were over sixty in advance of last year and mado a most interesting display. \ The Horses. .In the draught horse section the en-tries-were'not what a critic would call ehow horses, although some fairly good animals irere shown. T. Mann's Bonny Jean appropriated the champion ribbon, "and : -th& Rama exhibitor secured first for filly or gelding foaled since August .1, 1914, and first .for mare with foal at foot, J. Smith- being second and third in the latter class. J. A. Jacobsen TO3 first for filly or gelding foaled since August 1, 1915, but had to take second place to T. W. Williame for mare or gelding foaled befgre August, 1914. For pair of harness horses in plough harness, T. Mann's Bill and Doll secured the red ticket. In the miscellaneous section some fairly good animals were exhibited, hut : there'-was nothing of outstanding merit. P. O'Reilly sained first for fanner's general utility horse, E. Jl'Laughlan. first for. • tradesman's single light horse for delivery cart, and first for. best spring cart (horse up to , 15cwt: J. Bartosh exhibited tho maro ' considered best snitahle for breeding re- '■ mounts, whilst A. Fay secured the red ''■ ribbon-for stallion most suitable for : getting remounts. ■About,36 entries came forward in the harness horse division, tHc < championship being awarded to Miss G. : Maher-'s-Batchelor, which got a double champion win when he was singled out from the hacks for championship hon- . ours. Tlio same animal also got first for the best paced hack. • A good deal of interest.was centred in the district lady's hack competition, which was open to those within a thirty miles radius of Taihape. This was ■ won by Mrs. T. V. Morrhi's Gentleman Joe.' . ; . Catile Awards, :.".-. 'As already indicated, cattle made a much stronger section this year than on previous occasions, but classification in the fats would be an improvement. :, ,The result of the judging of the fat •: : classes gave E. Competition in tho Lincoln classes rested between R. Wilkie, Taihape, and H. Middleton,' Waverley. The former was awarded first for ram under 21 months, and first for three rams under 21 months. .H. Middleton se'cured first for ram ovcr'2l months, and second for three rams under 21 months.

By Telegraph.—Press Association • Christohurch, February 27. At tho Addington yards to-day tho entry of storo sheep was a good one, including lines from Nelson. The demand was keen right through the sale for anything good. The rangn of prices was:—2-tooth owes, 225. 9d. to 345.; 4and.6-tooth.ewos, to36s. 3d.; 6 and 8-toofch ewes, to 335, 10d.; sotirnlmontlt ewes, to 335. 9d.; 2-tooth wothers, to 265. 6d.; 4 and 6-tooth wethers, to 31s. 2d.; 6 and 8-tooth wethei s, to 30s. 6d.; rape lambs, 20s. to 255. Bd.; medium, 175.-Id. to 19s. 10d.; lighter and cull, to 17s. There "ore 3139 fat lambs yarded, as compared with 2210 last week. Prices remained on a par with tho previous sale. The range of prices was:—Extra prime, to 34s'. 2d.; prime, 265. Id. to 295. lOd.-j. lighter, 225. Bd. to 265. There were approximately the same number of entries of fat sheep as last week, and little difference in values. Ewes were slightly cheaper. The range of prices .was:—Extra prime wethers, to 405.; prime wethers, 345. po 38s. The yarding of fat cattle was rather smaller. There was a large proportion of cow beef. The quality was fair all through. There was a very keen sale of vealers, and the market was swept of larger sorts. There was a. large entry of dairy cows of uneven quality. A few extra good sorts brought £17; moderate, £7 10s. to £9 10s.; inferior, £5 12s. 6d. .to £7; There was a small entry of store pigs. At Burnsido to-day 190 fat cattle were yarded. The quality was fair to medinm, and prices were slightly easier for medium. Good quality was firm at last week's rates. A few liucs of ewes advertised failed to put in an appearance. Our total offering numbered 12,660, and wo sold 10,219. The condition of tho owes offered this year did not compare as favourably as last. We attribute this largely to tho wet weather we have experienced during tho last two months; also to the fact that fat prices have tempted farmers to sell their heaviest conditioned ehcep.
