9 ■ A FARTHINC DAMAGES AWARDED By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, February 25. In the Supreme Court, before Mr. Justice Chapman and a common jury of twelve, Beath and Co., Ltd., drapers, Christohurch, claimed £1000 damages for alleged libel from_ Maurico Gok'isborough, journalist, Wellington; Frederick James Dawson, publisher, Wellington, and the "John Bull": Newspaper Proprietary Co., Wellington, for publishing an article in "John Bull's Register" of July 16 last, which it was claimed falsely and maliciously misrepresented the facts as to the origin of the plaintiff company's capital and the nationality of its shareholder?. After an hour's retirement the jury returned with a verdict for one farthing damages. The question of costs was reserved.
