DEFENCE EXPENDITURE COMMISSION
By Telegraph—Press Association. Palmerston N., February 22. • At to-day's sitting of tho jDefence Expenditure Commission, evidence was given by Captain Trask (paymaster), Sergeant-lii6tructor W. Minnell, Ser-geant-Instructor H. H. Davies, and Captain M'Doimell, Commander of No. 6 Group. Tho last-named stated that lie considered that all men called up for service should bo dealt with.by the group officers instead of being under the dual control of tho group office and the Di-rcctor-Gencral of' Recruiting. He thought the group commander should he the military representative in each district before the Appeal Board. He drew attention to the fact that in some, districts a major who was area-officer was drawing a higher rate of pay than a group commander, who was a captain and who was over the area officer.
