When extricated it was found that Monteith had been killed. Lawson sustained a fractured skull, and was removed to the hospital.' His condition is critical. Smith escaped with minor injuries. •( ' , Monteith's parents reside at .B«erton. Ho was 21 years old, and was shortly entering the Expeditionary Force camp. The party were returning from Opunake. The survivors are not fufficisitly recovered to give an account aS|to now the accident happened.
