Sir James Alien and Lady Allen arrived in Wellington yesterday from Diuicdin.

The Hon. G. W. Ruesell arrived in Wellington from Christcburch yesterday.

Tho Hon. D. H. Guthrie, Minister in Charge of the Soldiers' Information Department, was a passenger from Dunedin by the Maori yesterday.

Sir William Fraser will arrive in Wellington from Auckland by the express to-day.

Captain Bone, murine superintendent to tho New Zealand Shipping Company, arrived in Wellington from the south yesterday.

Mr. A. D. Kennedy has returned to Wellinetonfrom the South Island. Major-General Sir Alfred Robin, Commandant of the Forces, and Sur-geon-General Henderson, DirectorGeneral of Medical Services, are at present in the South Island on a tour of inspection.

Major R. A. Wilson, R.G'.A., has been mentioned in dispatches—the second time in his year's service—for good work done with his battery at the battle of Messines. Major Wilson's many friends throughout New Zealand will bo pleased to hear of him. He has now returned to tho front after a short course of gunnory in England. He writes in good spirits, and is very keen on his work.

Master Geoffrey Shirtcliffo, son of Mr. G. Shirtclifie, of Wellington, has left for England, whore he will entor tho Boyiil Naval College at Osborno as a cadet.

Mr. R. H. Hughos, of Jit. Eden, Auckland, received by tho last mail a letter stating that his nephew, Mr. Henry Fowler, C.8.E., who was appointed Assistant Director-General in the Department of Aircraft productions, had been to Buckingham Palace to receive a decoration from the King. The decoration is described as a Maltese Cross, tjlie four bars being of blue enamel. Tho new' Assistant DirectorGeneral is the eldest son of Mr. Henry Fowler, of Evesham, and was chief engineer to tho Midland Railway when his serviced were commandeered by Mr. iLloyd George, and it is asserted ho greatly speeded up the output of aircraft from the huge establishment at Farnborough.

Dr. and Mrs. Putnam (Palmcrston North) left on Friday for a fortnight's holiday at Rotorua and Taupo.

Information has been ( received that Sergeant Charles Reginald Yeik son of the lat<) Mr. Alfred Ycils, of Kaivhia, lias been awarded the D.C.M. for gallantry and devotion to duty during his first light, which took placo in Arabia on October 3, 1917. Sergeant Yells enlisted with the, Australian Oth Light Elorse Regiment at the outbreak of war, but was transferred to Hie Imperial School of Instruction, Kgypt. His only brother, Alfred C. Yells, who enlisted at the age of 17, and was mentioned in dispatches from tiallipoli, was killed in action in Franco just after attaining his twentieth birthday,

Previous to leaving Timaru Mr. C. ■V. C'otterill, who has been manager of the Bank of New South Wales in Tilnarii for the past five years, and who has just been transferred on promotion to the Nnpier brunch of the bank, was mot by a largo and representative gathering of business people, who presented him with a liqueur stand and :i purse- of fifty soveroigns Second-Lieutenant Kirkby Wilson, of tho Royal Engineers, lias been awarded the Military Cross, cable advice to this effect being received last Thursday. Lieutenant Wilson, who is tho eldest son of Mr. Harry Wilson, of Auckland, is an old King's College boy. He was in England when tho war broke out, and enlisted at Home. Ho has been serving in Mesopotamia sinco the commencement of operations there.
