RACE-DAY TRAFFIC

AN INTERESTING RETURN. An interesting return was furnished to councillors at tho monthly meeting of the Hutt County Council yesterday in tho form of a letter from Mr. W. Routley, of Taita, who took! a careful note of the vehicles which, passed his place between 4.30 and (» p.m. (an hour and a half) on the second, clay of the Wellington Racing Club s. Summer Meeting (Anniversary Day). Tho tally reads as follows:—Motorcars, 355; motor-buses, 31; motorcycles. 75; push bicycles, 31; twohorse vehicles, 4; one-horse vehicle, 40: on horseback, 3. In forwarding the return, J jr. Routley said:—"l have written the above information thinking that it might he of some value to you in estimating tho damage to the roads, which I should say is nothing less than £10". with the last two days' races. It seems to me a bid whey for the Government to curtail the trai»s at the expense of the county roads.
