FEATHERSTON NOTES
At a meeting oi tho committee of the Wairarapa Automobile Association Mutual Insurance Company, held on .Saturday, Mr. A. J. Tongood was elected as a director representative of the policy-holders. Policies covering, insurances amounting to £'12b'O were approved at the meeting.
At "Fernside" on Saturday ovening Mr. Martin Elgar 'president) and Mrs. Elgar, were the recipients of a handsome presentation in the form of an epei'gne stand, from the officers and committee of the Wairarapa Automobile Association. The presentation was made hy Mr. T. E. Maunsell, and tho Hon. Sir Walter Buchanan, M.L'.C, who spoko in felicitous terms as to the recent marriage of the recipients. Mr. Elgar replied in an appropriate speech. Subsequently the committee, together with other friends of Mr. and Mrs. Elgar, weTe entcrta'med at supper, when the following toasts were honoured:—"Kindred Associations" (proposed by Mr. A. G. Holms, and responded to by Mr. A. E. Mabin, Wellington) "Members Absent on Active Service" (Rev. J. G. S. Bartlett—Major Newcomb), ''Our Host and Hostess" (Mr. A. J. Toogood—Mr. Elgar), <mi "The Chairman" (Mr. David Smith—Mr. Maunsell). In responding, the latter, announced that he would be leaving Carterton shortly, ■ and would no longer be able i<> take part in the work of the association. Mr. Maunseli has been a vice-president of the association and very active worker in the interests of motorists, also chairmar of the Mutual Insurance Company, rendering excellent service in this connection. As a compliment to Mr. M'aunEell, "For we are sorry to- lose him" was heartily rendered'. Messrs. Russell and Twiss (Wellington), assisted by Messrs. -'Williams (Wellington and Eev. Mr. Bartlett, Dr. A. E. Palmer, nnd H. H. Stewart, contributed towards the musical programe. As president of. the Automobile Association Mr. Elgar lias not only worked energetically in administrative affairs, but on a number of occasions extended hospitality to members, as well as helping in several patriotic efforts. Incidentally complimentary reference was made to recent assistance given tho Wairarapa Automobile Association bv the Wellington Club in connection with appealing for financial co-operation from kindred associations as to a recent appeal caso. /
Following upon a defeat by Greytown by 35 points on fhursdiiy, Featherston bowlers met Cnrterum at Feathorston oil Saturday, with improved '. results—there being only six points.between the rinks at tho. finish. The green was very fast, and Mr. Reid, speaking on behalf of the visitors, complimented, the club on this factor, also on the interesting game provided , . Mr. Holms, in responding, remarked that it was a source of satisfaction to. get within close range of the Oarterton ledoubtables. Three hearty cheers for the ladies—Mesdames Grilbrtiitli and Benton, and others —followed. At one stage—the .thirteenth head—Featherston were up on two riuus by 17 points to 11, the other rink being doivn only 6 points. Two of the rinks maintained a lead throughout, and Featherston as a whole held a margin of at least 4 points in hand till the sixteenth head, when Caiterton pulled up and forced aheacV. Smith's rink met a veteran combination, including M?.sson and Fisher, and unfortuiiij?l.y the local skip was not driving with his usual success. Scores:. —Cartel ton: Wise, Murray, Massou.
