SOUTHERN PRODUCE MARKETS

By Telograph—Press Association. Christohuroh, February 8. '/;■' Very -little grain is offering, as it is nearly all going into the stack at present, and there are more stacks to- be seen in Canterbury this season than for some years oiast. A num-' her of lines of wheat have already changed hands, most of them having ibeen sold on the farm to buyers who are visiting country districts on behalf of grain dealers. Offerings of oats have fallen off owing to the later-cut grain going into the stack. The market is consequently firmer, and prime seed Algerians are worth up to 3s. 3d. and Gartons to 3s. 6d. at country stations. There is also a little grass seed 3iow coming on the market. ■ There is a good deal of anxiety among potatogrowers in some districts on account of blight, and consequently -there are a good many potatoes, There'' is, however, very' little immediate de- N ihafid, and buyers do not care to do fhucli forward'business at present. For immediate delivory £4 is offered for Bound potatoes. aud £3 10s. for March delivery. ; THE MATAWHERO LINCOLNS (By an old Lincoln Breeder.) "■• Having heard the Matawhero stud flock was to be dispersed, and being an.-. enthusiast in the breed, an oppor- ■ tunity presented itself for a closer inspection, which wa"s eagerly seized and proved highly satisfactory. I was very much impressed with the stud' rams, *• few in number, certainly, but they are a very typical l6t, and there is nothing hotter in the world than the top end of the sheep. They show breeding, con- > stitution, and wool very seldom equalled. The ewes are great, showing beautiful quality and constitution, and ■ I am satisfied buyers will show their . appreciation when the sheep are placed before them. The lambs are healthy and show a strong family likeness' to their sires and dams. -C Breeders of Lincoln sheep and those < contemplating entering their names in tho Flock Book have an opportunity at.the sale of Mr. A. D. M'Master's flock which may never, occur again of acquiring some, .of the best Lincoln strain of blood in New -Zealand, if not iii;the world. Many breeders are successful, but to reach. the top rung of .. the ladder means enthusiasm, enormous patience, and personal supervision to endless detail with the closest attention to mating. -1 left Matawhero satisfied Mr v M'Master had acquired that position/ . .■ '

In.these days of labour scarcity, practical farmers will agree that it is far more profitable to raise maximum crops on ■» small area than to'spread the same yield over a larger acreage. And yet scores of farmers are utilising the large area for the comparatively small return. "With the application of "Eclipse" Fertilisers, you. can considerably increase the yield per acre, thus; reducing expenses and adding to your profits.—-Advt.
