UNDER WHICH BOSS?

Sir, —Mr. Brandon says he is standing to discountenance the attempt to compel the'members of a party _ to accept the nominee of a political * ! boss." He will find that the great body of electors of Wellington North will strongly resent and oppose the attempt to compel them to accept a candidate generally regarded as the nominee of another "boss," the Liquor Trade, which is at the hack of all this opposition to Mr. Luke.

If, owing to the action of "Boss Bung," the election is won by the anti-conscription candidate; if the success of the candidate representing the National Government is imperilled by the action of the Liquor Party, a further grave count will bo added to the already strong indictment that is being framed against that party by an everincreasing number of serious people throughout the country. But there is another choice of "bosses" we have now offered us. Are we to be under a political "boss" whom we know, and who and whoso colleagues, whatever their faults may be, have kept the reputation of New Zealand for patriotism and for a determination to "see it through" so high in the world, or are wo to owe allegiance to an anti-couscriptionist, pacifist, and Bolshevist "boss;' with corresponding chaos in New Zealand, disheartenment o four own people, and jubilation of the Germans at the apparent war-weariness of this Domm-ion?-lam,et<!"-PLAIN ISSUE. February 8.
